2-Day Tarangire and Lake Manyara Safari
trip overview
Two of northern Tanzania's best-loved parks in two days.
This 2-day safari covers Tarangire National Park's elephant herds and baobab plains, followed by a full day in Lake Manyara National Park, with its groundwater forest, tree-climbing lions and birdlife-rich lakeshore. You'll travel in a 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced driver-guide, staying overnight at Eileen's Trees Inn — a mid-range lodge in Karatu, conveniently placed for both parks.
Trip Highlights
day-by-day itinerary
Where you go, what you do, and where you sleep each night.
You'll stay one night at Eileen's Trees Inn, positioned within easy reach of both parks. Additional accommodation before or after the tour can be arranged for an extra cost.
Tarangire National Park
Your driver-guide collects you in the morning and heads south-west into Tarangire National Park. Tarangire holds more elephants than anywhere else in Tanzania, with herds of 50 to 100 gathering along the Tarangire River, alongside lions, leopards, giraffes and over 550 recorded bird species.
The park's baobab-scattered plains give it a landscape unlike anywhere else in the north. You'll spend the day driving through it with stops wherever wildlife appears, before heading to Eileen's Trees Inn for the night, roughly a 1–2 hour drive from the park.
Lake Manyara National Park — Tour Ends
After breakfast at the lodge, you drive less than an hour to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact park squeezed between the Rift Valley escarpment and an alkaline lake. Its groundwater forest, open grassland and lakeshore support large troops of baboons, blue monkeys, giraffe, elephant and buffalo, with hippos in the shallows and flocks of flamingos along the water's edge at certain times of year.
Manyara is also known for its tree-climbing lions, although they are not seen on every visit. You'll spend the day on game drives with a picnic lunch included, then drive back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport in the afternoon, marking the end of your tour.
